Honesty or Loyalty to Family (PUB 2)

Everyone says that family is like the most important thing the world, without your family you cannot be happy and live your life fully because a person's family is like the support system to someone and its very important to have a support system. In the play A streetcar named desire, it depicts family and shows the pros and cons of everything that happens and could happen in a family. The main characters as in Blanche, Stanley and Stella are the ones that most focused on. Blanche relocating and moving in to live with her sister Stella and Stella's husband Stanley but Blanche has a terrible past that follows her wherever she goes, starting with her failed marriage; her husband killed himself after being caught by Blanche for having an homosexual affair. She suffers with severe alcoholism and is always lying and getting caught in lies by other people about her past. Stanley has it out for Blanche by always catching her in lies and trying to confront Blanche about it. In the climax of the play, Stanley rapes Blanche which throws Blanche of the edge and makes her lose full control of herself. Blanche was barely holding onto herself but being raped by one of her family member's; specifically, her own sister's husband really made her lose full control.

In the play Stella says "I couldn't go on believing her story and live with Stanley" (Stella, Scene 11). This shows the internal struggles/ conflict that Stella has been going through, having to pick between her own sister or her husband who is the father of her kid because Stella is pregnant. This play shows the family loyalties and the struggles someone has to go through. Stanley is very abusive, he has a brash personality and is very rude. He shows no remorse and his character does not align with Blanche's character as all. Stella is very blinded, she does not realize or see how bad her husband Stanley is and the toxic and abusive behavior he possess. Blanche's behavior is more flirtatious and lustful because she craves attention from a man. She wants to be loved again and feel what its like to be in love and be loved. She is also very mysterious because she tries to hide her past so nobody knows her history which is why Stanley and Blanche do not get along at all. Stella struggles with having to choose and cannot make a decision truly.
One's belief is something that they are going to stand by no matter what anyone else says, Stella has struggles believing her sister because she knows that her sister is a liar and is always searching for attention so believing her over the father of her baby is hard for Stella and its a belief that she'll never get past. No matter what happens with Blanche, Stella will always believe Stanley. This play can be connected to real life events, because Blanche's personality is something a lot of people possess, a desire to get attention from others, attention seeking personality and the conflict that Stella feels can also be related to a lot of current events because there are a lot of situations where friends or families have to pick sides or pick loyalties. There are a lot of broken familys which have to pick sides. Stella chose her husbands side over her own sister.
During the climax, Stella did show remorse after seeing her sister in the mental hospital, realalizing that her actions and distrust made her sister go away. I believe that Blanche getting away from the toxic family and going to the mental hospital is a good thing because she can get help and also she will be away from Stanley who raped her and shows no remorse. Stella blames herself for what happened to her sister because in scene 11 she quotes "What have I done to my sister?' she feels very remorseful and guilty about what happened and is maybe realizing that she should have been a better sister to Blanche and supported her.
